🧠 What is a virtual desktop?

The virtual desktop feature in Windows 11 allows you to run multiple ‘working environments’ on one computer at the same time . For example,

  • Desktop 1: For work (Excel, Word, Email)
  • Desktop 2: For learning (PDF, Chrome, YouTube)
  • Desktop 3: Personal (music, games)

In this way , you can organize your windows according to your purpose and work with focus.

🛠️ How to use virtual desktops

🔹 1. Open a virtual desktop

  • Shortcut: Win + Tab → Click '+ New Desktop' at the top of the screen
  • Or click the 'Task View' icon on the bottom taskbar → Add a new desktop

🔹 2. Switch between desktops

  • Shortcut: Ctrl + Win + Left/Right Arrow Key
  • You can quickly move between desktops

🔹 3. Move the app window

  • Win + Tab → Drag the app window to another desktop
  • Or right click on the app window → 'Move > Desktop x'

🔹 4. Change the desktop name (Windows 11 feature)

  • Win + Tab → Double click on the name above the desktop thumbnail → Enter the desired name

🔹 5. Delete Desktop

  • Win + Tab → Hover the mouse over the desktop thumbnail you want to delete and click the 'X' button
  • No need to worry, even if you delete it, open apps will automatically move to the previous desktop!

✅ 5 Tips

  • Shortcuts become more convenient when you use them frequently as a habit.
  • If you set different desktop backgrounds for each desktop, it will be easier to distinguish them.
  • Rather than using all apps 'in one place', you can focus better by using them separately
  • If you leave the app open and log back in, it will restore you to that desktop.
  • Double your multitasking efficiency when used with an external monitor !
