How to download ISO files

The first thing you need to prepare for installing Windows 11 is the official ISO file. Anyone can download the latest ISO file for free on the official Microsoft website.

If you enter ' Windows 11 ISO Download  ' in the portal search bar , you can go to the relevant page, select the language and version, and then click '64-bit Download'. The download file size is about 5~6GB, so a stable Internet environment is required.

When downloading, you must go through the official website, and it is recommended to avoid files from unknown sources as they may be infected with malware. It is also important to check whether the OS version to be installed on the USB is compatible with the specifications of the PC you want to use. Installation may be restricted on some older PCs depending on whether TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are set.

After preparing the Windows 11 ISO file, you must run Rufus and burn the file to a USB drive. At this time, the ISO format must be set to be compatible with UEFI, and it is also possible to bypass unnecessary requirements through the 'Extended Installation' option.

Setting up Rufus and creating a boot disk

Rufus is a free, lightweight, and fast USB boot disk creation tool. First, download the latest version from the official Rufus homepage ( https://rufus.ie/en/ ) and run it. It is convenient because it is a portable format that does not require installation and can be used right away with just the executable file.

Once the program is launched, it will automatically recognize the connected USB device. After selecting the ISO file, you will need to select the partition type and target system type. Most modern PCs use the UEFI system, so it is common to select ‘GPT partition scheme’ and ‘UEFI’.

In the boot options, select ‘Disk or ISO image (optional)’ and specify the Windows 11 ISO file you downloaded earlier. You can leave the default for the image option, and if you enable the ‘Extended Installation’ mode, it will automatically bypass the TPM and Secure Boot requirements.

After confirming all the settings, press the ‘Start’ button. The USB drive will be formatted and a bootable installation disk will be created. This process may take 5 to 15 minutes depending on the performance of your PC and the speed of your USB, and once it is complete, you can safely remove the USB to finish preparing for installation.

BIOS setup and installation process

After creating the boot disk, you are now ready to install Windows 11 on your PC.  First, power on the PC you want to install and press F2, F10, DEL, etc. to enter the BIOS or UEFI settings screen. (Note that the keys to enter the BIOS are different for each PC manufacturer. It is recommended that you know this in advance and run it.)

Here, you need to change the boot order so that the USB drive boots first. Some motherboards require that Secure Boot be disabled for installation, so it is recommended that you set that option to 'Disable'. Also, if TPM settings are required, you need to enable TPM 2.0 in the BIOS, and older motherboards may not have that option. In this case, you can bypass the installation using Rufus' extended installation mode.

Once the boot settings are complete, reboot the PC with the USB connected and the Windows installation screen will automatically appear. After that, follow the on-screen instructions to set the language, keyboard, region, etc., format the disk, and proceed with the Windows 11 installation. Once the installation is complete, remove the USB and reboot, and Windows 11 will run normally.

After installation, it is recommended to set the environment to the latest through driver updates and Windows updates, and you can also synchronize personal settings by completing login through a Microsoft account.

Anyone can easily install Windows 11 with just Rufus and an ISO file. If you follow the steps introduced in this article, even beginners can create a boot disk and complete the installation without any problems.
