How can I verify the recipient of an email from Google Gmail

I inform you step by step how you can check the recipient of an email on Google Gmail.

In the past, most people used groupware (e.g. Gabia Hiworks, Daou Office, etc.) emails in Korea or Japan. As you all know, IT companies these days use Google Workspace a lot, so they use Gmail a lot.

It's really comfortable, but...
Just one thing. Gmail doesn't provide a read receipt feature to regular users by default.
However, there are several ways to utilize receipt confirmation or similar functions, so I'll introduce them.
(Of course, you all may know this. :-)

How can I verify the recipient of an email from Gmail

✅ 1. If you are a Google Workspace user: Use the ‘Request Read Receipt’ feature

For Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) accounts (e.g., companies, schools, etc.) that are not personal Gmail accounts,
You can set up a receipt request in the following ways:

📌 How to set up:
  • Compose an email in Gmail
  • Click the “More (3 dots)” icon at the bottom right
  • Select 'Read Receipt'
  • Send mail
📌 However, please note:
  • Confirmation is only possible if the recipient accepts the receipt request.
  • Verification is not possible if the other party rejects or uses a different email client.

✅ 2. Alternative for regular users: Use an email tracking extension

If you're a personal Gmail user, you can bypass read receipts via a browser extension .

🔧 Representative free extensions:
ProgramCharacteristicBrowser
Mailsuite(구 Mailtrack)✔ Gmail receipt confirmation ✔ Check mark function providedChrome
Yesware✔ Track email opens and link clicks ✔ Provide statisticsChrome
Bananatag✔ Tracking and Reporting ✔ Limited Free Use AvailableChrome, Firefox

📌 Examples of using Mailsuite:
  • Go to https://mailsuite.com/
  • Log in and link with your Gmail account
  • Automatically apply tracking feature when composing emails in Gmail
  • When the other person opens the email, you can check it with ✅ two check marks
Confirm receipt of sent emails Mailsuite (formerly Mailtrack)

Things to note

  • A receipt only confirms whether the recipient has opened the email, and does not guarantee that the content has actually been read.
  • Some security settings or ad blockers may interfere with operation.
